The Electoral Commission of Ghana has officially declared John Dramani Mahama, the candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as the winner of the 2024 presidential election.
According to results announced from 267 constituencies out of 276, Mr. Mahama secured 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of the valid votes cast. His closest rival, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), garnered 4,657,304 votes, translating to 41.61%.
Election Overview
The election recorded a total of 11,430,531 votes cast from the 18,774,159 registered voters, marking a voter turnout of 60.9% based on the 267 constituencies counted. The total rejected ballots were 239,109.
Nine constituencies remain outstanding, including Awutu Senya East, Nsawam Adoagyiri, Akwatia, Suhum, Techiman South, Dome Kwabenya, Ablekuma North, Ahafo Ano North, and Damango. These constituencies account for 947,116 registered voters.
Even if all the valid votes from these constituencies were cast in favor of Dr. Bawumia, he would not surpass the 50% threshold, as explained by Mrs. Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission. Under such a scenario, Mr. Mahama would still maintain a majority with 52.13% of the total valid votes cast.

With the clear majority established, Mrs. Jean Mensa, serving as the Returning Officer for the 2024 presidential election, declared John Dramani Mahama the President-elect of Ghana.
